Easy Answers

I try to keep these blog postings short, somewhere between 1,000-2,000 words.  Of course, this oversimplifies things, makes it appear there are easy answers to every problem.  I would never pretend there are easy answers to many of life’s situation.  In fact, if anything, there is a continual searching for answers to some of the things that happen around us, and to us.

Although purists would argue with me, there are simply many things that boggle our minds, and cause us to scratch our heads.  We know God is in control of everything, and that He is our source of knowledge, wisdom, comfort, healing, and salvation.  But, even this does not bring an answer to everything that comes our way.

But, on the other hand, maybe life is simple.  At least the important things.  We may not always have the answers to our finances, our family situations, our health, and a myriad of other things.  Maybe we are not supposed to have answers for those things.  Maybe the answers we need to have are much simpler than that.  Kindness, love, caring, sharing, helping the disadvantaged, encouraging the downtrodden, giving hope to the hopeless.  Those are some simple things, that are not terribly complicated.

All of that is fine, you say, but where is the payback?  How do I get rewarded?  What is in it for me?  I’m the one who needs help.  I’m the one who is in need of a friend.  I’m the one in financial distress.  I’m the one with the health issues.

Well, there’s an easy answer to that one, too.  God is your rewarder.  He will be the one who will repay.  He is the one keeping score.  He will reward you in this life, and in the life to come.

How big is the reward?  Well, it all depends on when you want it.  If you want your reward now, then it may be small.  If you are willing to wait until you are before Him the reward will be great.

Can you keep a secret?

Let me put it another way.  Those things you do that gain a reward here on earth already have been paid.  Those things you do for God that no one knows about, those will be rewarded in heaven.  Now, which ones do you think will be larger and more fulfilling?

Jesus put it this way, in Mathew 6:1-6

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
